why people take up martial arts as a sport
Do martial artists practice martial arts as a simple sport or to defend themselves against likely attacks in the street or in dangerous situations?
Does the choice of martial art emanate from a passion or simply for
practical reasons resulting from daily life?
In my opinion martial arts respond first of all to spiritual needs such
as concentration, self-control, harmony and synchronization of body and mind.
The elevation of all that is material is the ultimate goal of a martial arts
adept, which sometimes explains the incredible feats achieved by a great
expression of patience and perseverance that aims at the final goal of being
"the most accomplished martial artist" imbued with a "nobility
of character" according to the conception of the great master and founder
of karate, Funakoshi Gichin.
The martial arts, in particular,
Asian martial arts were beforehand attached to the religious practices. Indeed
its practices of physical endurance helped the followers of the temple to
better concentrate and to better assimilate their theological duties.
With the problems of modern life and the fast pace of daily life, the
lack of time and motivation, people prefer key solutions and tend to look for
efficiency that would allow them to save time. They want to learn quickly
techniques that are as effective as they are easy and do not require much
effort.
This is possible but not always obvious. Looking for a quick solution to
deal with an aggression seems a bit impossible because you first have to
cultivate a self-confidence that develops with almost daily practice. Moving
from a simulated fight in the gym to an authentic fight during an aggression is
not as simple as one might think, it requires a rapid movement, a quick choice
of the targeted position of the body because the opponent must succumb to a
single blow or two. Any delay can degenerate into a difficult situation.
The ideal is to learn effective movements and techniques, without going
into the concepts reserved for professionals, but also to devote daily time to
learning.
However, we must not forget the most important rule during an
aggression, which is to run and run away when possible.
