Improve memory
Usually, to memorize, a mnemonic method is used, which consists in using
methods to fix the information in the memory (picket method, pictorial method
using rhymes, visual method of keywords, method of word substitution etc.),
however, practice has revealed their limited scope because they are effective
only in very special cases. These methods cannot cultivate memory in the sense
of increasing our ability to memorize in such a way that it is simply loaded
with heterogeneous elements without any close relationship between them. As a
result, the brain will be forced to put more effort into it than in direct
memorization by repetition.
So, what really improves memory?
It is the education of the higher faculties of the brain to know, the
coordination of ideas, attention, interest that really allows it.
The human brain has the ability to clearly direct its attention to a
particular area for the time it takes to record even a complicated message.
(Children can spend hours in front of a video game with incredible
concentration), the emotion that accompanies this attention has the function of
better fixing the memory of the message. From this, we can understand that
anything that promotes attention is able to improve memory. Attention is the
necessary tool to engrave information in the memory.
Attention is the concentration on a center of interest. The adult male
can make himself attentive on his own initiative. This conscious and voluntary
mobilization enriches communication the most. In order to mobilize a dispersed
attention on a subject that is difficult to access, it is necessary to make it
alive and interesting, so it will be necessary to elaborate a very ample and
fruitful documentation.
Participating in a conversation on a well-known subject can give us the
opportunity to deepen our understanding by motivating our attention.
On the other hand, the emulation produced by the presence of a group,
the affective stimulation, the subjective images give each event its tone and
allow it to be fixed in the memory.
To conclude we will say that memory prefers simple information to
confused information, well-organized ideas to scattered ones, ideas that are
attached to a specific context to those of which we have no idea and finally,
those that respond to intellectual or emotional needs.
